Wells is getting to his point of how christology functions in a culture of relativism...this an interesting lead up about immigration..........he was talking about european immigration here:

"The tensions which this immigration has created appear to be even greater than in America becase these nations are all so much older, the memories longer, their ethnic sense deeper, and there is no nation in Europe whose genesis lies, as America's does, in ideas and which is made up almost entirely of immigrants adn their descendants."

we are a nation of immigrants and ideas. that is humbling.
